Digital Signage at The Hepworth Wakefield Museum

Digital Media Systems were contacted by The Hepworth Wakefield, Museum of the year 2017, to provide a solution that enabled messages and public information to be quickly and easily displayed within their reception area, yet fit in with the look and feel of the museum.

Hepworth Museum Digital Signage

During the consultation, we discovered the museum were utilising traditional leaflets and paper advertising platforms. Although this was a medium that had been used for many years, it was apparent that the printed marketing material had a limited shelf life, was easily overlooked by visitors, along with been outdated and very expensive to produce.
The Hepworth museum has a very minimalistic, modern feel to it with the main reception area consisting of a large bright open space. Because of the overall layout and design of the building, it was difficult for visitors to identify where to find information along with the location of the main reception desk, as this is situated in an uncommon position for a museum environment.

The Hepworth museum is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. The architects selected the material to emphasise the gallery’s sculptural appearance, it was designed and built with most materials of bespoke design. Digital Media Systems had to consider this when implementing a digital solution as it was important the installation had to blend into the environment whilst keeping the museums modern, elegant theme.
Located centrally to the museums reception desk and set seamlessly across the back wall, Digital Media Systems installed a series of high-brightness 49″ ultra-slim commercial displays. At 700 nit brightness, and designed for 24/7 use, the commercial displays provide a dynamic and engaging platform that is clearly visible in the large, bright reception area. A further 43″ high brightness unit was installed set into the wall at the entrance to the main museum.

Hepworth Museum Digital Screens

Using our squareVIEW DSA secure cloud content management system, full HD animated content is uploaded, scheduled and deployed remotely by the museums marketing team. This enables pertinent messages to be shown on the displays, leaving staff at the entrance desk time to meet and greet visitors to the museum.
The solution provided by Digital Media Systems was designed to provide an attention-grabbing focal point whilst maintaining the original bespoke feel to the museums reception area. The high-brightness commercial displays provide visitors with timely information, offers and much more, adding value to the overall visitor experience.

The installation has proven to be a big success and well received by staff as well as those visiting the museum.
“The screens have been a great asset to the overall look and feel of the museum and have made communicating with visitors much easier” said the Head of Marketing for the museum.
